“Good manners and good cologne is what transforms the man into a gentleman!”- Tom Ford
Now, I will not turn into a cheesy speaker, but now you have a visual image of today’s post guest.
Hiding his sorrows by helping the poor and people in need (kids, immigrants) with clothes, food and a good word, he pictured himself as ready to jump in and help a friend.
Can you guess who he is already? No? No problem, let’s continue.
He says he makes time to call and talk with his friends and family. That he likes to plan and buy things for his loved ones. He's always looking for ways to be there for them and spend time with them. I will not disclose too much from his personal life, but my impression is that his heart has extremely much love to give and is ready to go the extra mile, even though disappointment was part of his past experiences. Life is full of colours and I saw his will and struggle to care for real friendship, even if his trust has been broken in the past.
“I wanted to give to the poor what I could not have when I was little.”
Stefano is a volunteer in Y.M.C.A. Siderno until June 2023, through the Civil Service program. During the rest of the time, when he is not at the office, he is working as a sports journalist at the local football club and has partnerships with different newspapers. Is sport his life? I thought so until I heard a bit of his life story, his thoughts, and his ideas about life. His core, his life is the warmth of friendship, the togetherness and happiness of being surrounded by loving beings. He joined YMCA as he grew up around the organization and this was his dream, that one day he joins them and gets to work with kids with or without special needs.
“YMCA is part of my life, my childhood, my path to growing into the man I am today. Here I played sports, and it is the place where I met my friends. Here is where I met my first girlfriend, and the place where we shared our first kiss. For me, it is a magical, meaningful place and I am happy that today it is also my working place.”
What is the question you ask yourself when you are alone, and you would like to be asked by someone else?
“I ask myself if I am happy at the moment. And I answer that I am happy for many reasons, but not for the one(s) I would really like to be happy about. I would like people to ask me “how are you”, instead of me being the only one asking others how they are”.
26 y.o. Stefano is always sharing his need to grow and evolve – personally and professionally. His actions speak the same for him. It is one person who acts towards his aims. And he aims high.
“It is my time to spread my wings and break my limits. I have always lived in Siderno, being bound to this place. I want more from life. In my career, as a sports journalist, staying in Siderno is not an option for those who want more, who aspire for better in life. I studied Political Sciences because it is the best bachelor’s degree to have in Italy if you want to be a journalist. Also, I got a double specialization in Sports and Communication to support my bachelor’s degree”.
Stefano will be working as of January 2024 in Toronto, Canada for a local football club as a journalist. He says it is the way to start something in his life away from the steadiness and certainty his hometown offers and to improve his English level.
“My mom does not agree with me moving to Canada. She wants me to stay next to her. It is hard to explain that I want more, but I am still doing it. “– we cannot blame parents for wanting their kids to stay with them until the very end. We, as parents, love our kids way too much, and have an extremely strong connection with them, as we remember all the good and the hard days from the moment they were born. His parents have one more reason to want him to stay, one special reason close to their hearts, but this is for Stefano to disclose.
As I found him kissing the phone’s screen when he showed me a picture of his nephews, I can tell he speaks from his heart when sharing his passion and interest in working with children in YMCA.
Y.M.C.A. continues to build on young people’s lives, influence them and be their support in their adult life. I see many beautiful souls coming back, giving back to the one community that helped them when little.
